The 12 centavos tipos

There are plenty of surviving 12 centavos tipos, but not nearly as many as there are 25s. They are known from 20 of the 29 offices. Colima, Pachuca, Cordova, Chihuahua, Acapulco, Lagos, Tabasco, Tampico and Guadalajara are the only offices not recorded thus far. The tipo to the left is a 4th period tipo and was used in Veracruz bearing that cities circular date stamp.

The 12 centavos stamp is found on various green papers. Most common are described as "sea green" and "blue green", the example to the left one of "blue green".

As previously noted, 12 centavos were not a profitable as the 25, 50 and 100 centavos stamps. It is probably the only reason that so few 12s are known to exist. 12 centavos was a common rate though so at least some were in demand and the forgers must have felt pressure from their customers to produce the denomination.
